To get an impression of the work in the kitchen, we interviewed the teachers Ms. Laib and Mr. Matthiensen as well as Inga and Lukas, two students, who help prepare the food for the participants. Their expectations for this event are for the people to have a great time, get a chance to widen their personal horizon and make new connections. Through lots of music and spontaneity the atmosphere was incredible and everyone was enjoing themselves. The food includes something that suits every taste, for example pizza, pasta and curry. Of course there are also always vegetarian dishes!

Bonding for better work

Before the committee work actually begins, the participants do team building exercises to strengthen their bond. There are different kinds of games, some take place inside and others outside, where they can enjoy the sunny weather, which brightens the atmosphere even further. The games include dancing and other sportive activities. Now that the teams have bonded, the actual work can begin soon …

 The welcome ceremony

After our guests from abroad and their hosts had arrived at school, the European Youth Parliament 2024 was officially opened with a warm welcome ceremony.
First Magdalena Claaß, head of senior classes at Weber Schule, started with a speech, in which she welcomed everybody.
Then this year's presidents Oliver Knoll and Carla Rathjen introduced the chair-persons of the different comittees. After that the welcome ceremony was ended with everybody gathering in the schoolyard for the officiall group picture.

Read the script of Ms. Claaß speech below:

"Välkomna,
bine ati veni
grüezi,
bienvenuto,
velkommen
and as they say in Northern Germany: Moin!

I am Magdalena Claaß, head of senior classes. Mr. Eggers, Head of School, who unfortunately can't be here today due to prior committments, sends you his regards.

We at Weber-Schule are very happy to welcome you all here in Eutin to the European Youth Parliament 2024.

As we gather here from six different countries, representing diverse cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives, we are united by a common purpose: to engage in meaningful discourse and seek solutions to the pressing issues that confront our continent and our world.
In these times, where war and hate speech are pounding against our democratic foundations, it is more important than ever that we meet, that we interact, that we listen closely to each other.

Thus, let us embrace diversity as our greatest strength and use the collective wisdom to shape a path towards a more just, equitable, and sustainable future for all.

Johann Wolfgang Goethe once said: „Es ist nicht genug zu wissen, man muss auch anwenden; es ist nicht genug zu wollen, man muss auch tun.“
(„Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do.“)

Let us, therefore, not only speak of change, but let us be the agents of change that our world so desperately needs.

Now: Go ahead and enjoy your time! Go into your debates, learn from each other and start building a future together.

With that, I declare the European Youth Parliament officially open.
Thank you very much."
