Day 2

On day 2 of the project, the committees discuss their topic and prepare resolutions that will be presented and debated in the General Assembly on Sunday.

Last touch

End of day 2! The first speeches have been written, debate topics prepared and counter-arguments have been picked well. The resolutions are still being typed - we are getting ready for tomorrow!

Participants voiced:

"I really enjoy the non-formal part. I got to know a lot about the other countries and what the school is like. I didn't have big expectations, I actually thought it would be more boring but I have to say I am impressed."

- Luana-Maria Tintea (RO)

"I think it’s really interesting to meet new people from different countries and talk about our different views on European issues as well as our different values."

- Ash Brauner (DE)

"I find it vital that we are being informed about what is currently happening in the world and that we get to focus on a specific topic entirely. It helps us to develop an understanding of said topic."

- Finn Schlüter (DE)

Discussing final information

We are getting to an end with day 2, so at 7 pm everybody gathered in the assembly hall for the General Assembly meeting, to give them some information for the big day of the debates. Order of speeches, seating order and introduction of political guests were aspects discussed. Then everyone got back for the final touch on their speeches.

We also talked to the second head organizer Mr. Johannwille, his message for everyone is:

"I hope that there will be much more cultural exchange."
- D. Johannwille

Insight into the work of the media team

Today, the media team has been busy collecting impressions of the work, translating a video message from politician Bettina Hagedorn to add subtitles, interviewing different people and groups, coordinating the visit of a journalist from the local newspaper, preparing the certificates for the participants and much more. They've met several challenges regarding the technical equipment but could overcome these.

Committee Work

Since morning the committees have been working hard on their topics to collect ideas for tomorrow. Everyone is getting into  the roles that have been distributed. Passionate discusions fill the halls until the committees come to an agreement.

The presidents are important for the organisation of the EYP and the general Assembly (GA) on the third day. There they will lead and moderate the GA. We had a chance to talk to Carla, one of the two presidents, and she tells us about their responsibilities. Her motivation for participating is that she already took part in four EYPs including some in other countries such as Denmark. According to the president the EYP is an excellent experience with awesome vibes and a lot of fun.

Getting to know Eutin

After lunch there was a small ice-breaker: We went on a tour through Eutin to make our international guests familiar with the town and its history. First stop was the Wasserturm (which you can find on the logo of the EYP), a historical monument which supplied Eutin with water. We used the beautiful weather to visit the castle, where the empress of Russia Catherine the Great lived for a while in the 18th century, and the castle’s garden, which was restored in 2016. After some ice cream to enjoy, a stop was made at the town hall and the tour ended back at the Weber-Schule, where the committees head back into work.

Coaching for the Media Team

Today Axel Baur, a photographer and regisseur, sacrificed his free time to coach our video crew. We want to thank him for his help! Everyone can look forward to a fantastic video on the European Youth Parliament.

"It was very helpful and the motto 'be brave, try something' was inspiring. We now have lots of ideas for the final product. Thank you!"
- Tim Bern

Programm for the accompanying teachers

While their students were working independently in their committees, the accompanying teachers from Romania, Italy, Sweden and Switzerland were taken on a trip to discover the region of Ostholstein. Levke Friedrichsen and Tobias Hageleit, teachers at Weber-Schule, showed them for example Neustadt at the Baltic Sea. The Swiss teacher Tanja Willi said that she really enjoyed the landscapes of the region.
